VIHA (Vancouver Island Health Authority) - also provides a comprehensive listing of community resource for Vancouver Island and coastal communities. Services listed cover a broad range of subjects including health, wellness, education and community development.Federal Employment Programs/Services CARE – Career Assistance and Resources for Employment CARE provides, at no cost to you, innovative, client–focused career solutions and job search tools to guide you back to employment. With onsite and online workshops, self-help resources, and career / employment counselling the CARE Team offers leading–edge, high quality employment services to all unemployed Canadians. Victoria Immigrant and Refugee Centre Societ - assists in the settlement and integration of immigrants and refugees into Canadian Society. VIRCS offers an Employment Transitions and Coaching program, Skills Connect for professional immigrants, a resource centre and workshops focusing on a variety of topics. . Victoria Disability Resource Centre - is a non-profit organization that helps people with all types of disabilities lead independent lives - under their control and by their choice. Access to Employment is a program to help people with disabilities get and stay connected to employment. . T.Y.E.S (Transition Youth Employment Services/Society) - is a unique employment service for individuals with disABILITIES who are in transition to employment. Their service assists clients to enter the world of work and achieve increased independence. La Société francophone de Victoria Inc - offers employment and related services in the French language The John Howard Society - specializes in working with individuals who have obstacles to employment, by offering one-to-one counselling, resume preparation, job search and interviewing skills. CNIB (Canadian National Institute for the Blind) - Serving persons with visual impairments Victoria Native Friendship Centre’s - mandate is to meet the needs of Native people in the Greater Victoria area. The Career, Employment and Education division (CEER) provides services in a supportive atmosphere to help clients achieve employment goals and to foster a sense of focus and self-confidence in order to compete in the labor market successfully. Victoria Youth Empowerment Society (VYES) - The YES 533 Drop-In is a daytime drop in centre that connects youth to healthier opportunities by providing information and referrals. Youth receive assistance in obtaining legal, medical, and employment information, as well as food and clothing. The YES Drop-In assists youth in acquiring personal identification, preparing resumes and offers youth a phone and message system. Provincial & Community Employment Programs/Services The Garth Homer Society - creates opportunities for independence, growth and participation in the community with people who strive to overcome developmental and physical obstacles. Supported Employment Services provides employment opportunities for adults who want to learn new skills that will help them work in their communities. The program matches an individual’s vocational interests, personal goals, work experience and aptitudes with the needs of local businesses and community organizations. Triumph Vocational Services - offers a full range of services, from disability management and assertiveness training to skills-gap training and job placement. Island Deaf and Hard of Hearing Centre - offers an Employment Assistance Program which provides a variety of services dealing with employment, vocational and career counseling with the help of Employment Counsellors. Salt Spring Island Community Services - offers programs and services ranging from basic needs (food and shelter) to counseling and mental health services to people of all ages. They are a non-profit, charitable organization. Training and Learning WorkSource Wage Subsidy - provides a wage subsidy to assist Job Seekers who require on-the-job work experience and skills development to become fully productive in the workplace. Up to 50% of a new employee's wages may be covered for up to six months. The Reger Group - delivers two programs funded through Service Canada: WorkStart: a self paced career assessment program aimed at assisting individuals define a career focus and action plan. Self Employment Benefits Program: a fifty-two week entrepreneurship program focused on assisting individuals successfully launch businesses. |
