Having a Career Plan is essential if you want to avoid the majority of negative shifts in the labour market. But planning anything well takes knowledge and organization - not something that we all have - so that's why we go to the professionals. In Career Management, it is the Career / Employment Counsellor who helps you to develop your plan and supports you along the way. Here at CARE we have a clear and simple process for accessing a Counsellor so you can focus on your Employment Goal.

1st Step: EMPLOYMENT NEEDS ASSESSMENT
The Employment Needs Assessment (ENA) involves gathering information on your employment situation and history, identifying an employment need and utilizing this information to team up with you in developing a Return To Work Action Plan (RTWAP). This Plan allows you to focus your needs according to the 4 employability dimensions: Career Decision Making, Job Search, Skill Enhancement and Employment Maintenance.
The ENA Interview usually takes only 20-30 minutes. A checklist is used to help determine any need for referrals to assisted and/or self-directed services, based on a number of defined criteria. The ENA results may show a need for you and your counselor to develop a Return To Work Action Plan and/or access the self-serve resources.
2nd Step: EMPLOYMENT & CAREER COUNSELLING
If your Needs Assessment shows you are eligible to meet with a Career Counsellor then you will be scheduled a specific day and time for your appointment. Counselling sessions are by appointment only. You are eligible to meet with a Career Counsellor if:
- You are legally entitled to work in Canada, and you are working less than an average of 20 hours per week, and
- Are actively seeking full-time employment, or are in receipt of a notice of imminent lay-off, or
- Must leave your current occupation due to medical reasons, or
- In the case of persons with disabilities who are unable to work full-time, are actively seeking increased employment or more sustainable employment.
CLIENT CONFIDENTIALITY
We do everything possible to ensure complete confidentiality for every client we meet with. CARE collects personal information directly from you when you apply to use our resource centre and employment services, in accordance with the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA). Your information is collected for the purpose of providing you with the services you have requested from us (employment support purposes) and to help determine your eligibility to other community programs offered by other service providers.
